Everyone knows Matt Cutts: he’s one of the keystone architects in the field of search engine optimization. Google is so proud to have him you know. According to Cutts, there’re different variable in the Google algorithm. How many of them are out there? Well, think of 200 algorithms that Google engine is using, but there’s no way I can explain all of them in this article.
However, in my days, I have helped a lot of website get to the number one spot by simply avoiding common mistakes and taking care of the cheese, in an effective way. Based on my 15 years of experience, I can say that the essence can fill up a whole tea cup. Some people will brag about pouring their expertise in a swimming pool, but I think that they’re just bragging about their proficiency. Don’t buy that.
Here are a few steps that will help you to get started on the SEO venture:
• Write Content for Fellow Beings:
From time to time, I have emphasized on the importance of content. You should write something that is written for real life traffic. I have seen a lot of interesting titles, with nothing worth reading in the body. Usually, the whole article is littered with keywords because the so called SEOer wanted to make this webpage crawler friendly.
• Meta Tags:
It’s your sales letter. The Meta tags or Meta description is a 160 character sales pitch that most of the advertisers are going to use as a description for your website. Make this description effective and well targeted because it will become your identity in the later phases of your business.
• Focus on 5-20 Main Keywords:
Own the search criterion by going for 5 to 20 well researched keywords. You don’t want to be too thin or too thick, so try to remain in the middle of both these categories. Use the tools to drive the quantity and quality of visitors.
• Proper Use of Domain Name and Root Folders:
Use your keywords in collaboration with your domain name and folders. For instance, go ahead and check out the results for these search terms:
Used Cars
Monkeys for Sale
Belize Vacation
You’ll end up with a well created URL that probably goes like this:
http://www.yourdomain.com/used-cars/used-ford-thunderbird.html.
• Title Density:
o At times, some people have suggested that the title character density should be 60 to 65. Okay, lets take it to 70, and keep it on the line. Don’t wander off to come up with ineffective title because you want your title to have the keyword(s), effectively, and preciseness.
Klee Kleber, the Vice President of Rackspace Marketing once said, “SEO is a religion. I, like everyone else to have different beliefs on how Google works and we can talk about it until we run out of breath — but no one knows for sure except the hundreds of Ph.Ds that work at Google. But a strong foundation of great products and quality keywords and links is always the best place to start and build from.”
